Self-Care September

I haven’t written anything on this blog for a few weeks. I can’t remember the last time I actually worked out for more than one day a week. Those are two facts that it almost pains me to actually admit. These aren’t the only areas in my life that I’ve been slacking either. I haven’t been doing a great job at keeping our house tidy, I’m not drinking enough water and it’s been a bit too long since I’ve shaved my legs, especially considering it’s still summer.

Basically, I’ve been tired. Really tired. I get more than enough sleep, in theory, but it’s not always the most restful sleep. This just leaves me drained through the day and makes me not want to think about those things that I normally stay on top of, or enjoy doing.

I woke up on September 1st feeling great. For the first time in a long time, I actually felt rested. I don’t know if it was just the lack of sleep finally caught up to me, or what, but I wasn’t going to question it. I got up in the morning and started a massive clean-up of the kitchen. I moved things out of the way to vacuum, wiped down cupboard doors, and organized the shelves and pantry. Let me tell you, that felt great. I even dug out some of the classic Disney cartoons I’ve been wanting to re-watch for a while now (watched a few of them already), and after 1 year of living here I finally set up my Wii and played Super Mario 64.

Maybe it’s the long weekend that’s doing it to me, but my mind is feeling refreshed. I’m ready to tackle September and the remainder of the year. This doesn’t mean I’m not going to feel tired and burned out again, because I’m sure I am, but I need to push through it.

Therefore, I have decided to make September a focus on self-care. I’ve set up a list for myself of things I’m going to make sure that I accomplish as the days go on. These aren’t goals per se, because it’s okay if I don’t complete them. They are just items that I want to focus on to make sure that I’m really taking care of myself, physically and mentally.

Drink more water
Watch movies that I love
Play Super Mario 64 at least once a week
Workout at least 10 times
Go for walks and stand during the workday
Eat Healthy
Thoroughly clean at least 2 more rooms
Do something new
Write at least two more posts for September

Like I said, these aren’t goals. These are just things that I would like to do throughout the month to make sure I’m taking care of myself. They are things that I enjoy doing and don’t want to keep pushing to the side or forgetting about. September is going to be a good month!
